Wide receiver Donovan Brown will not be with the Syracuse football program this fall, syracuse.com reported Wednesday. Head coach Fran Brown revealed that Brown will play at Lackawanna College (Pennsylvania) in 2024 while speaking to reporters at the ’Cuse Coaches Caravan event in Rochester, New York.
The wide receiver was not listed on SU’s roster during its spring game in April. Fran said postgame that the wide receiver “is not with the team right now” and that he “has some things that he has to take care of.” Syracuse.com also reports that Fran left the door open for Brown to return to the program in the future.
After redshirting the 2022 season — where he appeared in five games mostly on special teams — Brown caught 27 passes for 321 yards and a touchdown, playing in all 13 of the Orange’s 2023 games.
With Brown and Damien Alford’s departures, two of the Orange’s three 2023 receiving leaders are no longer with the program. SU’s wide receiver room is completely revamped with the additions of Georgia transfers Zeed Haynes and Jackson Meeks, while Oronde Gadsden II and Trebor Peña are returning from season-ending injuries.
