The back-to-school soundtrack to jam out to while walking to class

Syracuse University students are coming back to campus filled with excitement and anticipation after a long, sweaty summer filled with internships and coffee runs. In case you haven’t been keeping up with your SoundCloud feed, here is a list of five songs and artists to know coming back to Syracuse:

Artists to Know

  1.  Louis the Child

Genre: Electronic

Louis the Child is a Chicago-based music duo consisting of two friends, Robby Hauldren and Freddy Kennett. They have been on the SU radar after a great performance at Mayfest last semester. They are most known for their single “It’s Strange” that features K.Flay’s angelic vocals and playful flute melodies. This electronic duo has continued to release banger after banger, each one better than the next. The SU student body should be blasting LTC songs at every party.

  1. Russ

Genre: Rap/Hip-Hop

Recently signed to Columbia Records, Russ is an up-and-coming rapper/singer/producer from Atlanta. He has released 11 albums, utilizing SoundCloud and social media to share his music. His 88,000 followers on Twitter and 100,000 followers on Instagram prove that Russ is really making a name for himself. With catchy hip-hop songs such as “What They Want,” which has over 9.55 million plays on SoundCloud, and the lyrically genius “Pull the Trigger,” Russ has been gaining more and more popularity. Check him out on SoundCloud.

  1. DuaLipa

Genre: Pop/Indie Pop

Dua Lipa is an English songwriter and singer, currently working on her debut album with Warner Bros. Records. In May, she released “Hotter Than Hell,” which has seen great success, covered on major outlets such as Rolling Stone and Spin. With steamy lyrics such as, “my kiss goes down you like some sweet alcohol,” and “you probably still adore me with my hands around your neck,” Dua Lipa’s music is perfect for late nights.

  1. Terror Jr

Genre: Electronic/Pop

Terror Jr is a masked trio known for their electronic track “3 Strikes” that was featured in Kylie Jenner’s music video, “Glosses.” Nobody knows who exactly is in the group, which is why there is so much hype around them. Their second single “Sugar” has over 602,000 plays on SoundCloud, featuring a bouncy beat and cheeky lyrics. Each track this trio releases is entirely different and unique from their past singles. If you need a good music to help you wake up in the morning, listen to anything by Terror Jr.

If I had to choose one song to sing Karaoke to, it would be “Kill the Lights.” Featuring Alex Newell and Jess Glynne’s soulful voices, the track is perfect to listen to while getting ready for a night out.

  1. Tired of Talking (A-Trak & Cory Enemy Remix) by LEON

  1. GIRLS @”by Joey Purp ft. Chance the Rapper

This track features Joey Purp and Chance rapping about the type of girls they are into. “Girls @” is a fun track that combines a catchy beat with humorous lyrics.

  1. Cruel”by Snakehips ft. Zayn Malik

Genre: Electronic/Pop

Zayn has been killing it ever since he left One Direction. To be honest, I was a little skeptical about his career as a solo artist, but after hearing “Cruel,” all my doubts have disappeared. With a quick tempo and sirens/screams in the background, “Cruel” would make running on a treadmill enjoyable.

  1. Sexual”by NEIKED

Genre: Pop

Neiked came out of nowhere with a huge banger. “Sexual” is a pop song with a funky twist. This song defines summer flings, with lyrics such as “just say you feel the way that I feel,” and “you’ve got something that I ain’t seen before.”
