Syracuse offensive lineman Kalan Ellis has been ruled out for the season, head coach Dino Babers said on Monday during his weekly press conference. The junior suffered a lisfranc injury in August — the same injury Oronde Gadsden II suffered against Western Michigan — and appeared in just one game this season, playing 45 snaps against Clemson. Babers said the junior, who was the Orange’s starting left guard last season, will redshirt.

Ellis has been wearing a walking boot and on the sidelines, though he hasn’t been on a depth chart since SU’s loss against No. 4 Florida State. He is the second offensive lineman the Orange have lost to a season-ending injury this year after David Wohlabaugh Jr. suffered a season-ending injury in Week 2. Jakob Bradford also went down against Virginia Tech and did not play during the second half of Thursday’s loss. Babers said “we have to see how it goes” when touching on injury updates for Bradford and Umari Hatcher.

Last season, Ellis had nine starts at left guard, allowing just one sack and nine pressures in 267 pass blocking snaps, according to Pro Football Focus. Alongside Chris Bleich, Ellis was slated to be one of two returning starters on the offensive line. He also missed two games last year due to an injury.
