The partnership between SU and SUNY-ESF began in 1911.

Syracuse University and SUNY-ESF renewed their agreement to allow both student populations to participate in academic and student-life activities across the two universities.

SU Chancellor Kent Syverud and SUNY-ESF Interim President David Amberg jointly announced the renewed partnership on Monday. If approved by the state, the agreement in part allows SU and SUNY-ESF students to take classes at the opposite institution, according to an SU News release.

If passed, the agreement will stay in effect through 2024. Under the renewed partnership, SUNY-ESF students would have access to the Barnes Center at the Arch. The center — estimated to cost $50 million — centralized SU’s health and wellness services into one building. The building will be fully open this semester.

The partnership between the two schools began in 1911, when SUNY-ESF was established. SU and SUNY-ESF also hold a joint commencement ceremony in May.
