Board of Trustees chairman further explains Cantor’s announcement
The editorial and letter that appeared in Thursday’s Daily Orange are inaccurate and missed the mark on why Chancellor Nancy Cantor is stepping down now from overseeing the day-to-day operations of the university.
The facts are the opposite of what your editorial posits: Chancellor Cantor took this step of leadership and foresight so that she would have more time to work with Chancellor-designate Kent Syverud on the transition. In the coming months, she, Chancellor-designate Syverud and Interim Chancellor Spina will serve as a strong team as they work together to focus on the upcoming transition and interface with other key Syracuse University community members on important issues and opportunities.
Chancellor Cantor is not leaving the SU community. She will remain in Syracuse during this time and she will be actively engaged with, and working for, the university. In addition to focusing more time on the SU transition, she will continue to work on and complete key initiatives that have distinguished her tenure, including efforts that raise SU’s profile and build appreciation for our unique value proposition as a place of opportunity and excellence.
Sincerely,
Richard L. Thompson
Chairman, SU Board of Trustees
