After rainouts, SU shocks defending champ UCLA, 2-1

When the rain finally stopped, a rainbow appeared for Syracuse. And at the end of the rainbow awaited a giant pot of gold.After the first two days of the Kajikawa Tournament were rained out, the Orange defeated No. 3 UCLA, the defending national champion, 2-1, at Arizona State. It was SU’s third-ever victory against a ranked opponent. It was the highest-ranked team the Orange has defeated.Sophomore Courtney Mosch pitched four innings of one-run ball for the win while she hit the game-winning two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth inning.Freshman Erin Downey made her collegiate debut, earning her first career save in three innings of one-hit ball.

Track and field

The track and field team’s final meet before the Big East Championships yielded some success for the Orange at Bucknell on Saturday.While many athletes who already qualified for the championships sat out, sophomore Angelica Lyte took first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.06. Freshman Ramon Sosa finished first in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.32.
